Job Summary:
The Director of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) plays a pivotal role within the Cardiovascular Services department. Reporting to the Executive Director of Cardiovascular Service Lines, this position oversees the administrative, operational, and clinical functions of the CVOR and Perfusion teams. The Director’s responsibilities encompass managing a high-volume surgical unit that handles approximately 3,300 cases annually, including over 40 heart transplants. The Director is integral to hospital’s mission, vision, and values, focusing on a patient-centered approach to promote cardiovascular services across the continuum and drive value-driven outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the daily operations of the CVOR, ensuring seamless scheduling, resource optimization, and the delivery of exceptional patient care. Maintain a high level of efficiency in a unit that handles a substantial case load, including complex heart transplant procedures.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Lead, guide, and develop a diverse team of approximately 90 FTEs, comprising surgeons, nurses, technicians, and support staff. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence.
  • Quality and Safety: Establish and uphold rigorous quality and safety standards within the CVOR, ensuring strict adherence to regulatory requirements. Champion a culture of patient safety and clinical excellence, especially critical during heart transplant surgeries.
  • Financial Stewardship: Develop and manage the budget for the CVOR department, closely monitoring expenses and revenue to ensure fiscal responsibility and optimal resource allocation.
  • Performance Enhancement: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, implement evidence-based practices, and drive performance improvement initiatives, all aimed at enhancing value-driven outcomes for patients.
  • 6. Education and Development: Support ongoing education and training programs for staff, ensuring they are well-prepared with the latest knowledge and skills in cardiovascular surgery and perfusion techniques.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Foster strong relationships and collaboration with various departments, healthcare providers, and stakeholders to ensure the seamless delivery of patient care and promote the growth of cardiovascular services.
  • Innovation and Research: Stay abreast of cutting-edge advancements in cardiovascular surgery and technology, facilitating the integration of innovative techniques and equipment into the CVOR.

Qualifications:

  • – Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, nursing, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • – Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a cardiovascular surgical setting.
  • – Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • – Proven track record in managing large teams and complex operations.
  • – Strong knowledge of healthcare regulations, quality improvement, and patient safety.
  • – Proficiency in budget management and financial analysis.
