About Us: We are a prominent not-for-profit hospital with 600 beds, dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to our community. We are currently seeking a dynamic Director of Laboratory to join our team.

Position Overview: The Director of Laboratory plays a pivotal role in our healthcare organization, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. Managing a team of 90 FTEs, this position is instrumental in shaping the strategic and tactical direction of our Laboratory Department. The Director collaborates closely with the Medical Director and other clinical and operational stakeholders to oversee all aspects of hospital laboratory services. This includes financial management, day-to-day operations, and human resources. Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies is a key responsibility. The Director fosters a culture of efficiency, accountability, and collaboration among staff and stakeholders, prioritizing patient safety and quality.

Director of Laboratory Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish, monitor, and manage annual and long-term strategic and operational goals for the Laboratory Department.
  • Develop, monitor, and manage the departmental budget and capital requirements.
  • Oversee the recruitment, development, and management of human resources within the department.
  • Uphold the highest standards of patient safety, quality, outcomes, and service.
  • Manage laboratory operations and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laboratory regulatory and accrediting agencies.

Director of Laboratory Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth understanding of the latest clinical, regulatory, and technological aspects of laboratory operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously with a high level of accountability.
  • Visionary and innovative leadership skills, with the capacity to develop, mentor, and influence staff and physicians.
  • Strong critical thinking, prioritization, time management, and delegation abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to leverage tools to streamline processes.
  • Effective performance under stressful and evolving circumstances.

Minimum Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or an acceptable science field from a recognized college or university.

Minimum Experience Required:

  • Five (5) years of clinical experience.
  • Five (5) years of progressive leadership experience.

Director of Laboratory Minimum Licensure/Certification Required by Law:

  • Certification in medical technology; ASCP, AMT, or AAB certification as a medical technologist or medical laboratory scientist required.

Additional Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Master of Business Administration or Health Administration.
